In the past week I seem to have developed a habit of waking up super early and then not being able to get back to sleep. Why this is happening I couldn't tell you. While it does make me feel productive to be up before the sun rises, it doesn't bode well for avoiding a midday slump. I have things to do at that time! It's annoying!

Whenever I'm struck by this, I have to use some coping mechanisms to power on through. This involves the usual suspects like caffeine, the occasional sneaky nap, and drilling so many memes into my skull that I'm too overstimulated to think about being tired. As I'm sure you're aware, screen time is probably one of the most effective ways of distracting from fatigue. Don't say we never do anything useful, because looking at the memes below could be setting you up for the day.

It's rarely a good idea to get too comfortable at a job. In the 21st century workplace, there's no such thing as security. That's before we even get to the fact that most younger people won't get to retire until they're especially old and decrepit. Fun!

If it wasn't for the fact that most of us have to earn a living, there isn't much to recommend working life. That's the impression that we are given from the world of memes. Greetings, science fiction geeks. Do you ever feel like there aren't enough good sci-fi movies getting made these days? Whenever I feel this way, I go back to the old classics. Last night I rewatched John Carpenter's The Thing, and I'm still convinced it's one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. It's a perfect movie, really. Great cast, isolating atmosphere, incredible practical effects, killer scorewhat more could you ask for out of a sci-fi horror movie? For me, the best part about The Thing is the tension that builds in the quieter, paranoia-filled moments between characters after they discover the alien's ability to absorb, copy, and assimilate other life forms. Not to mention that The Thing probably has one of the best endings ever. If you haven't seen it yet, you're really missing out.
