Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterdenton/53261192729/in/pool-62326588@N00 Peter Denton has added a photo to the pool:
Well now, look at this. What we have here are just a few of the Brimham Rocks, part of Yorkshires natural landscape.
Created from millstone grit 320 million years ago, these extraordinary shapes were formed during the Ice Age 15,000 years ago, as a result of the rocks being battered by fierce winds carrying ice, sand and other debris. Erosion by rain, frost, wind and sun continues to this day.
The rocks and the surrounding Brimham Moor landscape, northwest of Harrogate, have been managed and protected by the National Trust since 1970. From here, the visitor can enjoy not only the rocks themselves, but also superb views across Nidderdale and the wider countryside. |

The Howgill Fells from near Firbank Fell, itself near Sedbergh, Cumbria, UK https://www.flickr.com/photos/ministry/53262254755/in/pool-62326588@N00 Ministry has added a photo to the pool:
I've been trying to photograph this view for years good light on the tree and background, without the tree merging into the background, has been remarkable elusive. I do rather like this soft light in this one.
The viewpoint is on Shacklabank Lane, the single-track road over Firbank Fell, near but not at the 305 m summit.
The farm at the lower left is Beck Foot, just above the River Lune.
The hill in the middle of the image is Castley Knotts (361 m), with the eponymous farm on the side. In the opposite direction, the next summit on the ridge is Brown Moor (412 m), then Fell Head (623 m) is mostly off the edge of the photo.
After Fell Head, Bush Howe (623 m) is on the left of the background, with White Fell Head (~640 m) in the middle and The Calf hidden by cloud on the right. Bram Rigg is in front of the latter. |
