On the way back from Holy Island to Bamburgh (and Seahouses beyond) the road passes Budle Bay which is a favourite site for birders. A wide open bay which empties at low tide, it is a good place to sit and watch as the tide comes in and waders, amongst others, are flushed out of the gullies. The Northumbrian council has enabled parking right alongside the road and bay and it is convenient to be able to sit in your own warm and comfortable hide - cheating, of course, because hides are supposed to be hard, draughty, and cold ;-))
I did not do any serious birding this time but did take a few long distance shots. Top left is a Redshank (I wonder how it got that name?) and top right is a Shoveler just coming out of eclipse colouring. In the main shot are Shelducks in the foreground with a flock of dark Brent Geese behind. These will have arrived only recently on their winter migration. I think there are some Oystercatchers in front of the Swans and a couple of Crows are flying in. There may well be more that I have not noticed. That building in the distance is Lindisfarne Castle from an angle not usually posted.
