I do hope this photo was worth it - taking it led to my first tick bite...
On our visit to the New Forest to spread my Mother in Law's ashes, we spent the afternoon of our arrival exploring candidate places near the Ornamental Drives. It was a lovely warm afternoon and we appreciated the coolest provided by that tree cover.
As we approached the A35 road crossing, we approached a dip with a small stream and wetland hosting these wonderful trees and beautiful wild flowers. I quickly leapt in to action, taking advantage of my tall waterproof boots to keep my feet dry. I took a few shots and retraced my steps back to the road. Nervous of my bare legs and the high grasses on this exploration, I was concerned about ticks and carried out a quick leg examination. All clear.
Perhaps an hour later or so, as we completed the short walk and approached my car, I checked again. Argh, my first tick. I quickly but calmly used my tick removal tool to pull the little blighter out, and applied antiseptic cream. I've since had no symptoms but frequently check for the tell tale bullseye rash and other symptoms just incase I do end up catching Lyme Disease.
