Need a new printer... https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/287066.html My Canon printer has finally worn out, by which I mean I can hear nothing but the gears skipping as it tries to initialize. It's been coming for a while, so it's not a surprise, but it is annoying. Anybody out there got recs for a good all-in-one printer/scanner, preferably ink jet, preferably with separate color cartridges, preferably not over $150? Oh, and it has to talk to Windows 7 :) ETA: Found an HP 6830e on the Fry's website, and it's marked down from $180 to $100, and it looks very tempting. May stop by and have a look at it... *grumble* https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/287461.html It's not a big deal compared to what others are going through, but a couple of weeks ago I jammed the middle finger of my left hand, and damaged something so I couldn't straighten the end joint. I wasn't too worried on account of no real pain, no bleeding, clearly not life threatening. I made a Dr. appt which was this morning. They took x-rays and examined it, turns out I managed to do a small fracture to one of the bones and tore/damaged something soft-tissue-ish that's making it so I can't straighten the finger. Upshot is that I now have to wear a splint on the finger 24/7 for the next six weeks. If I let it bend at all, whatever soft tissue healing is going on will get broken again. This makes typing very complicated. Plus, when I mentioned all the things I have to do these days, they said no holding dog leashes in the left hand. Uh huh. Sure. Like that'll happen... (for those that don't know, dogs in training all work on the left side of the handler). And as if that wasn't enough, since I was at a hand Dr. I mentioned the trigger finger problem I have on my right hand (bent finger gets stuck and you have to force it straight again), so they gave me a cortisone shot in that hand, which makes it feel achey today... It's not about politics, I promise! https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/291213.html I was watching The Beat with Ari Melber the other day on MSNBC and he was interviewing Cory Booker (D-NJ), who is running for President. Ari does a "lightning round" of questions to his guests which have some political and some not political questions. What we found out about Cory Booker is that he's a sci-fi fan, prefers Star Trek to Star Wars, and when he's looking for an escape, he watches Supernatural re-runs! Dickens, anyone? https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/289575.html Recently, I watched the PBS broadcast of "Dickensian", and enjoyed the heck out of it. Now here's where I admit I haven't read any Dickens. Yes, I managed to avoid it in school. Anyway, "Dickensian" struck me as the best sort of fanfiction of Dickens and has me thinking it's time to go to the library and see which Dickens they have on the shelf. What I'm wondering, people who have read Dickens, is will it be as much fun to read Dickens as it was to watch "Dickensian"? *sigh* https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/289390.html Everybody who is going to the HLWW in Los Angeles next weekend, have a great time, okay? I wish I could be there, but it's the same weekend as the Great Dane Club of America National Specialty that has been on my calendar for two years (and I'm on the committee, so I kind of have to go...) Take lots of pictures, bring back lots of stories to tell us!! This entry was originally posted at https://adonnchaid.dreamwidth.org/299845.html. Please comment there using OpenID. | 7:22p |

Roku or Amazon Fire? https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/293150.html I figured out my LG smart tv is only sort of smart, and doesn't have apps for a couple of streaming services I'm looking at. Both Roku and Fire will do what I need, so I'm looking for pluses and minuses for each. Oh, also, I'm also not a huge fan of Amazon's Alexa and the basic Amazon intrusiveness. Which probably means I'm leaning toward Roku already. Anything I should know that would be a deal breaker?

I got a FauciOuchie! https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/292443.html Lucky me! I was sitting at my computer yesterday when the email came that my clinic group had appointments available for Covid vaccine. I logged in super quick and got one! And today I got my first Pfizer Covid vaccine. Well organized, in and out in about an hour, with the second dose appointment all scheduled.

That was amusing... https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/292224.html I had a call this morning (that, sadly, I didn't pick up, I was in the shower) from the Young Republicans asking for support for, well, you can imagine what they wanted. Money. To re-elect the Orange One in the White House. The funniest thing was that their script sounds like they think that an actual Republican can be reached at my phone number (my home land line, which hasn't had a Republican to answer it in ... ever). No wonder they're running out of money, they're wasting it on stupid data miners who are ripping them off. Which is appropriate, I suppose, seeing what they're doing to the country...

No good, horrible, very bad day... https://adonnchaid.livejournal.com/293549.html I was watching that fine Christmas movie, Die Hard, and got to remembering a discussion years ago amongst some of my fannish friends about how Jack Bauer, John McClane and ... the third guy I can't remember! would share stories about their Very Bad Days... Anybody remember that discussion and who the third was? This has been bugging me for a few days now...
