Call for submissions: Strange Little Girls

Belladonna Publishing is looking for short stories (2 000 - 8 000 words) featuring strange little girls.

The strange little girl is not like the other little girls. She might look like the other girls and act like the other girls, but be very strange at heart – or she might be just plain weird altogether. Sometimes she is a scary little girl, other times a dreamer, always treading the fine line between reality and imagination… We want to meet new strange little girls, and read strong and original stories about them.

What we want: Strong storytelling, clever plot and a polished manuscript

    Deadline: July 15th 2014

    Payment: $120 upon publication

Please visit our submissions page for guidelines and more information:

Call for Submissions: The Flesh Made Word - Adult Market
Call for Submissions: The Flesh Made Word: Erotic Tales About Writing
    Edited by Bernie Mojzes
    Publisher: Circlet Press
    Deadline: March 1, 2013

In the age of communication where words are cheap, easy, and disposable its easy to forget the sheer physicality of the written word. The inscription, through will and intention, through the press and flow of pen and ink expressing whats hidden within ourselves upon a surface that is transformed through the process: what is more intimate than that?

The Flesh Made Word is an erotic anthology about the act of writing, and of being written upon. Old typewriters, the tattooists pen, the press of fountain-pen nib to flesh. The sensuality of the words themselves, both the sound and the shape of them. The clack of typewriter keys and the shuffle-clank of the printing press. The intersection of the expression of the idea and the physicality of the body. The transformation or transcendence of the flesh through written language.

I am looking for strong, edgy stories that dont exist merely as an excuse for a great sex scene. Send me stories that take me to surprising places, and stories that dont flinch.

While this anthology is expected to be primarily comprised of Science Fiction & Fantasy, it is open to (almost) all genres, including Mystery, Adventure, Western, Mainstream and the ever-popular-though-always-misunderstood Slipstream.

    More details:

    Length: Up to 8000 words.
    Pay: $.01/word up to $25
Response Time: 1 month. Please query if you do not receive an acknowledgement within 3 days.

Call for submissions - Black Apples - Belladonna Publishing's fairytale anthology
Black Apples is an anthology of gothic fairytales starring the classic fairytale princess but her ending is maybe not so happy, her quest is perhaps more grim and the darkness of the tale might just come from within&

The Princess might be someone we know, but she can also be a princess weve never heard of before. She may come from ancient times, or far into the future. She can be the heroine, or we might not see her on the pages at all but the story must somehow evolve around the fairytale princess and/or her role as such and have a dark twist& Were looking for the beautiful, sensuous and sinister.

What we want: Originality is treasured, so is strong storytelling, clever plot and a polished manuscript.

Dont be afraid to experiment we do like the strange.

Payment: $120 upon publication and royalties on e-book sales.

Please visit our submissions page for full details and questions.

HP Lovecraft Swords and Sorcery Anthology

Not one that Heroic Fantasy Quarterly is putting together, but one we are interested in nonetheless.

Innsmouth Free Press is doing a Swords and Mythos anthology in early 2013.  From their website:

Sword and Mythos. This includes any element of the Cthulhu Mythos (creatures such as shoggoths, characters like the King in Yellow, locations like Leng) combined with sword and sorcery (heroic fantasy). Stories can be told from the viewpoint of sorcerers or other non-traditional heroic characters, although fighters with brawn and brains will also be accepted.

    More at their website.
