Old petrol station https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/45505.html Some more photos. I took these the other day, at a derelict petrol/gas station-turned-garage close to where I live. This place is soon-to-be demolished in order to make way for some new development, so I thought I'd get some photos in while I could. I waited until the sun went in before I took this shot. XD Someone really needs to empty that bin out. I assume that this used to be an office of some sort. Top of the building. Chain used to pull the shutter down. Window. Note the faded sign. Same window. Note the splintered wood with peeling paint. Where the price for Diesel used to be listed. Presumably a frame for a sign? A rusted post. The other rusted post. Not quite as good as some of my other pics, but they aren't too bad, I suppose. :) | Thursday, October 19th, 2006 | 4:29 pm |
Bit of a mixed bag this time https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/46068.html Some more photos I took in mixed locations around the town I live in, and a nearby village. A forest pathway. It kind of reminds me of the forest trail in SH 2. Same pathway. Blurry shot of the same pathway. A grimy speed limit sign. A view of the back of a shop. Metal doors around the back of the shop. An upturned barricade. Barred ventilation shaft, around the back of a supermarket. A graffitied wall. Same wall, a little further down. A bent garage door and some oil drums, located around the back of the scrapyard I posted about in this comm a while back. | Saturday, November 11th, 2006 | 11:57 pm |

Abandoned factory, and, erm, a toilet https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/47149.html I took these photographs over the weekend, of an abandoned factory (at least, that's what I'm assuming it is) in Southampton, UK. I couldn't get as close to the building as I would have liked, due to the place being fenced off and (according to signs placed on the gates) under 24-hour surveillance, so I had to take most of these pictures by holding my camera through the bars of the fence, but I think they came out okay. :) Taken near the back of the building. Maybe Harry will come and break it open with his hammer. The side of the building. Same. Although you can't really see it in this photo, some of the bushes & plants along the side of the building were surprisingly well-kept - perhaps it hasn't been abandoned for that long? Slightly blurry shot. Close-up. If you look to the right of the photo, you can see one of the aforementioned well-kept bushes. That, and the daffodils, look a little out-of-place. A boarded-up entrance and some stairs. I couldn't read what the sign on the door read, not from that distance. The gates. I like the contrast between the really rusted one and the blue one. View from the other side of the road. Same, a little further up the road. Now for a few more photos, taken today, at the scrapyard in my local area. I have previously posted some photos of this place - most prominently the seemingly abandoned garage/house in the middle of the yard, both here & here. The door to this room has been removed since my first visit, exposing the rather grubby inner contents to the outside world. What a mess. Slightly lopsided shot. I like that the shelf brackets have actually been welded to the door. There were also lots of discarded toilets, sinks and baths all over the floor outside this building... except I didn't photograph those. Maybe next time. | Sunday, April 8th, 2007 | 10:18 am |

Art History! https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/47830.html I believe I have found the inspiration behind the paintings in the church in Silent Hill 3- some of the religious works of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Not only the almost baroque lighting style, but much of the imagery and even poses carry over astonishingly well. Going in the order of the paintings... Origin shares a pose and a good deal of composition with the Conversion of St. Paul. Origin: the Conversion of St. Paul: The case for Creation is slightly more tenuous, but I noticed a similarity between the being to the left of God and several depictions of angels in Caravaggio's pieces. There's also some examples of the use of red cloth. Creation: the Seven Works of Mercy: the Martyrdom of St. Matthew: St. Matthew and the Angel: Salvation shares a lot of thematic imagery and at least one pose with Madonna of the Rosary, as well as very similar compositions. Salvation: Madonna of the Rosary: Promise is possibly the closest to what may be the inspiration- the Death of the Virgin. The compositions are almost identical, most of the elements are carried over. Promise: the Death of the Virgin: I haven't found anything that looks like Birth or Faith, but the rest seem similar enough to be worth pointing out. More scrapyard photos, etc. https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/44006.html Well, I returned to the scrapyard again today, in the hopes of getting a few more shots of the abandoned building that I took exterior shots of in my previous post. Upon arrival, I was incredibly chuffed to discover that the large garage door had been removed from this building, allowing access to the interior. So, I crept inside, and took a few pictures: The corner of a doorway, leading to what you will see in the photo below. This photo didn't come out as well as I had hoped, but oh well. I may return there to take a better shot one day. Anyway, this old, discarded chest of drawers & mattress/futon really felt SH-ish to me, so I had to snap it. The corner of the main room. Perhaps one of the coolest features about the main room - a flight of stairs leading down to this pit. I think that it's one of those pits that you drive a car over the top, so that one may work on the underside of the car whilst standing upright. (Heh, sorry, but I'm utterly clueless as to what these types of pits are called.) A window from inside the main room. If only the sun hadn't been so bright, then this shot would have looked a little creepier. Another window. The next three photos were taken at a couple of different locations: A sign attached to a gate, on a public footpath. An old building that I'm assuming used to be a shed or storage area of some sort. Access to the inside of this building was mainly blocked off, so I took this photo of the interior through the slightly open door. The same building, this time viewed through a window. Note the discarded blue door. Not as good as my previous photos, in my opinion, but I still like them nonetheless. | Tuesday, July 4th, 2006 | 3:33 am |
video/help request https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/44140.html Hey gang, I have an idea for a SH music video, but I need help gathering clips to use (I'm specifically after footage from games 1-3) as well as some gameplay video captures, without any subtitles. If anyone has a good collection of video footage and/or knows where to access same and would like to help me out, please let me know. A few photos https://maybesilenthill.livejournal.com/44712.html A few more SH-esque shots: I took this one months ago - it depicts a very old, rusted plough-type device. This was snapped my grandparents' old back garden. They've had that machine lounging around there for as long as I can remember. Anyway, pretty much the only SH-esque thing about this shot is, of course, the rust & corrosion, but I thought it kind of worked. This set was taken a few months ago. Most of the photos didn't seem very SH-ish, so I didn't include those. These three, however, do seem at least a little fitting: A shot of an old building, on a farm near my grandparents' new home. I believe that this is of the same building. Same location - this is, of course, a rusty gate. This one is probably my favourite: A derelict shop of some description, snapped on a busy street in London a week or so ago. I think it was in (or near) Chinatown. That is all for now. |
