| 1:46 pm | Car graveyard in Belgium http://www.amusingplanet.com/2012/12/cha "Right in the middle of a small forest near Chatillon, a little village in Southern Belgium, is a graveyard of abandoned and beautiful rusty cars. These cars once belonged to US soldiers who were stationed in this region. Its not known how they managed to acquire these beauties in the middle of the war. When the World War II ended, all military troops were sent back to the US, but the cost of having all those cars shipped was way too expensive. The ranking officers decided to leave all the cars in Belgium. The cars were driven up a hill, one by one, nicely parked and somehow hidden from the outside world. Once back home in the US, the soldiers who wanted to retrieve their car had to take personal responsibility for all costs of the shipping. Not a single car was retrieved. At one point there were four car graveyards around Chatillon, and as many as 500 vehicles. Only one remain today. Over time, corrosion and decay have worn down the vehicles and what little remained were stolen by the locals and car collectors." Lots more at the link above. |

Pasanauri town on the road, 88 km from Tbiisi, claims to be the birthplace of one of the most known Georgian dishes, khinkali dumplings (in fact, specialists say that the dish originated in other, Eastern regions of Georgia). Yet, the town features an interesting object which is called a "museum" by its owner but which rather looks like a car cemetery... 1.  2.  3. We did not find the owner at home but his neighbors told us that he's a "boy of 40" (in Georgia, 40 is not considered a "serious" age) and that he has been colecting old cars for 10 years. He keeps them in his backyard and ib the street near his house.  4. A Volga car, rather new one.  5. Some 'foreigners', some caterpillat trucks...  6.  7. The cars are devoured by rust and stinging nettle - sad but somehow pleasant to look at...  8. most cars seem not to be in use since the Soviet era  9.  10. details  11.  12.  13.
